How we make money and how our ranking works
How we make money
Using this site is free for you. If you follow a link to a provider and sign up for a subscription there, some providers pay us a commission. The price does not change for you.
How the order is determined
Solutions are sorted by how many of the important criteria for a type of software they meet (for example VAT, QR-bill, Swissdec, data in Switzerland). Whether we receive a commission plays no part in the order. With equal scores, we sort alphabetically.
Providers without a partner program too
We list all relevant solutions, including those we do not work with.
Paid placements
If we offer paid placements in future, they will always be clearly marked as «Ad» and kept separate from the neutral list.
Where the data comes from
We research prices and features on the providers' websites and have them confirmed by the providers. For each item, we show whether it is still open. We checked the main providers on their websites on 23.10.2026. We only show star ratings when there is a genuine source for them.
How the score works
In short: the score shows how many important Swiss criteria a software meets, on a scale from 0 to 100. It says nothing about whether a provider pays us. Here we explain step by step how the points add up.
- 1
each type of software has fixed criteria
For each type of software, for example accounting or POS systems, we have defined 5 to 7 criteria. These are features that are especially important for Swiss SMEs, such as QR-bill, VAT return or data in Switzerland.
All providers of a software type are rated using exactly the same criteria. You will find the full list with explanations further down.
- 2
we check each criterion with the provider
For each criterion we look at the provider's website, price list and help pages. Each criterion gets one of three values:
✓ Yes: the provider clearly states that the software can do it.
✕ No: the provider clearly states that it cannot, or for example names servers outside Switzerland.
? Ask the provider: we found nothing on this. It counts as «No» in the score until the provider documents it.
Every product page lists the links to the pages we checked and the date of the check.
- 3
we calculate the points
Each criterion counts equally. We count the criteria met, divide by the number of all criteria for the software type and convert to 100 points. The result is rounded to a whole number.
Formula: criteria met ÷ all criteria × 100 = score
Example: 6 of 7 criteria met gives 6 ÷ 7 × 100 = 85.7, rounded to 86 points.
- 4
the points become a rating
To make the score quicker to interpret, we also show a rating in words, for example «Very good». The scale is further down.
A real example
This is the calculation for Abacus in accounting, with our current data:
Score in Accounting
86Very good- VAT return · meetsThe software creates the VAT return for the Swiss Federal Tax Administration (FTA) from the accounting data.
- QR-bill · meetsInvoices with the Swiss QR code (QR-bill) can be created.
- eBill · meetsInvoices can be sent via eBill directly to the customer's e-banking.
- Connection to Swiss banks · meetsThe software is connected to Swiss banks, for example for bank statements or payments.
- Data in Switzerland · open, counts as not metThe provider states that data is stored on servers in Switzerland. «No» if it names servers outside Switzerland.
- Access for accountants · meetsAn accountant or fiduciary can get their own login and work directly in the software.
- Available in French · meetsThe software or the provider's website is available in French.
The rating scale
This is how points translate into a rating:
| 90–100 | Excellent |
| 75–89 | Very good |
| 60–74 | Good |
| 45–59 | Satisfactory |
| 30–44 | Adequate |
| 0–29 | Weak |

What does NOT count towards the score
- Commissions and partner programs: whether we earn anything from a provider changes neither the score nor the order.
- Price: we show it separately so you can weigh it yourself. A cheap solution is not automatically worse.
- Reviews by visitors: the stars are shown separately on the product page.
- The provider's fame, size or advertising.
- Our personal opinion.
Where the score has limits
- It shows whether a feature exists, not how well it is implemented.
- All criteria count equally. For your business, one criterion may matter more than another. Use the filters or the recommendation for that.
- We have not tested the programs in our own business. The information comes from the providers themselves.
- Providers that publish little online have more open items and therefore often a lower score. As soon as they confirm details to us, we adjust the score.
Why does one program have a different score for two software types?
Each software type has its own criteria. bexio, for example, is rated on VAT and QR-bill for accounting, and on Swissdec for payroll.
Why do several providers have the same score?
If they meet the same number of criteria, they have the same score. They are then listed alphabetically.
How often is the score updated?
Whenever we check new information, at the latest during the monthly price and data check. The date is shown on every product page.
Is something wrong?
If you find an error as a user or provider, get in touch. With supporting evidence, we will correct the information and the score.
