Pension fund: second jobs to be covered by occupational pensions too
The Federal Council has opened a consultation. In future, all wages above the BVG entry threshold are to be insured on a mandatory basis, including those from second jobs.
On 28 October 2026, the Federal Council opened a consultation on ordinance changes in occupational pensions. It is implementing three parliamentary motions. One of them calls for all income from employment above the BVG entry threshold to be covered on a mandatory basis in principle.
In addition, partial withdrawals from pillar 3a and vested benefits are to be allowed in up to two instalments, including when starting self-employment. The consultation runs until 17 February 2027. Most of the changes are to take effect on 1 January 2028.
